When a passed family member with whom you had a poor relationship, continuously shows themself to you in your sleep or near sleep state, it is because they are reflecting on their life and their role in their relationship with you.
They are trying to let you know that they have realised and accepted their role and see how it has held you back. Their presence is to quietly encourage you forward without expecting anything for themself.
