 Humans are attracted to looking at a waterfall.

The reason relates to control.

Humans believe that the river is in control of its environment until it reaches a waterfall. They are intrigued to watch the water fall out of control, then at the bottom control is reestablished.  This brings to them a sense of peace that order has been restored.

What they don’t realise is that the river is trying to teach them a lesson that nature is never in control or out of control, it just is.
