An invading country always tries to dominate the country and its people that they are invading. When the soldiers of the invader are not as committed as the soldiers and citizens of the country invaded, domination will only occur by an excess of weapons.
Where the invader cannot win the support of the people of the invaded nation, the cost of winning and remaining in control is high, often too high to be successful.
Thus an invasion needs to be looked at in the longer term. Step one is military action and logistics will usually win that. Step two is taking control of the country and its running.
Winning step one is no guarantee of winning step two. It is in step two that wars are lost by the invader.
What an invading country is doing is akin to one person raping another then asking them for their Hand in marriage.
